Embedded Electronics & Integrated Sensors

Electronics
Intevia® intelligent fastening mechanisms feature an electronics assembly (or printed circuit board) that typically includes an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and when required, additional external circuits to perform the actuator control, sensing and communications functions required for the specific application.

Not every fastening mechanism in a network of several mechanisms needs its own electronics. Only one or two fasteners may have embedded electronics. These “master” fasteners control the other “slave” fasteners in the network.

User Interface
An intelligent tool - a PC, PDA or a custom-built electronic device - remotely operates the intelligent fastener via the electronics control system. The tool communicates with the electronics through a wired or wireless network connection.

Sensors
Integrated sensors monitor fastening mechanism status and fastener health. These sensors can detect the fastener setting, fastener condition, stress and strain, wear and tear and impending failure. Other auxiliary sensors can detect the presence of parts within an assembly in order to guide the user during assembly or disassembly.
